What is Kratom Used For? Kratom Demystified
When people find out I am a Kratom enthusiast they usually don’t know the answer to a simple question. What is Kratom used for? Kratom is a plant that is native to Southeast Asia that has become popular in the last few years as it has been in the spotlight for various reasons. You will also see it referred to as a more scientific name of Mitragyna Speciosa. It is currently legal in almost all 50 states (except 3), and in most countries around the world. Some countries do have stiff penalties for Kratom though, and some areas also have penalties for trying to prepare the plant to ingest. As I can’t lay out every single possible law here, just google your local laws for Kratom.
High Level Kratom Effects (How will Kratom make you feel?):
Sedation – Kratom comes in many different strains, and due to peoples different bodily makeups it has different effects on different people. One common theme you will hear though is that kratom is a stimulant in low doses, and a sedative in large doses. Speaking from experience I can say that I agree with this. What is kratom used for? To socialize!…In small doses I am more talkative, the edge is taken off, and I do feel stimulated. If I take a double dose though I feel very relaxed, heavy, and just like melting into my own world.
Euphoria – Kratom does have euphoric properties. Kratom works on the opioid receptors, so it is not a surprise that people claim to get the same effects from Kratom that they would from other opiates. It is notable less intense then something strong like prescription drugs, but that isn’t a bad thing. Once you start getting into extracts and stronger doses of Kratom you will see the products that could produce euphoric effects. What is kratom used for? Euphoria!
Focus – Kratom has been known to give focus for a long, long, long time. Workers in the fields in SouthEast Asia would chew on the leaves of the Kratom plant, and it would give them focus to complete their work for hours at a time. What is Kratom used for? focus…. This is another effect of Kratom I have personally enjoyed, as ingesting Kratom usually allows me to plug away for hours and hours at programming jobs and writing.
Anxiety Relief / Depression Relief – A very noticable effect of Kratom is how much your mood will become uplifted when you take Kratom. Some opponents of Kratom bring this up to say this effect will lead to Kratom dependency, but maintaining normal day to day activities is very simple while on Kratom. It is a natural product, so I am completely content saying to myself that I take Kratom daily as a supplement to get these positive mood effects. I don’t want to sound like a huge conspiracy theororist, but you have to wonder if this is why you will see it in the news and it becoming outlawed. Anything that steps in the way of profits for big pharma will have lobbyists against it, that is just how the US works.
Ways to take Kratom:
Kratom Tea – Making Kratom Tea is a very popular method of ingestion for Kratom. It creates a very potent effect, and is a lot better than methods we will mention later, like “toss and wash”. If you are a tea drinker you will probably be familiar with ways to flavor it, as Kratom tea by itself is a very bitter taste. I really liked Kratom tea when I first started taking Kratom, but eventually I was more inclined to buy a liquid extract that went down a lot easier.
Pros/Cons of Making Kratom Tea
Pros– Potent. Customizable flavorings. Lasts Long. Low Dosages needed
Cons– Preparation. Taste. Effort. Not discrete.
Kratom Extract – Kratom extracts are great because it packs a punch. You can think of an extract as having much more of the active alkaloids in a smaller unit of product. For example, there are “15x” extracts that are said to be 15x as strong as normal Kratom powder. So for 1 gram of “15x” extract, you are getting 15 grams worth of alkaloids. Kratom extracts can come in pill form, liquid form, powder form, and others.
Pros/Cons of Kratom Extracts
Pros – Extremely Potent. Easily Ingested. Lasts Long. Discreet
Cons – Expensive. Hit or Miss from Vendors. Hard to dose
Kratom Powder – Kratom powder seems to be the most popular form that you will see Kratom come in. In fact, when I first started Kratom YEARS ago, it was powder that I bought. Powder can be good because you get a lot of it in bulk for not much money, but in terms of ingesting it you really have to be hard core to get that stuff down. Some people would mix Kratom Powder with water to drink a slushy kratom smoothie type thing. Other people do the famous “toss n wash” method, which means putting kratom powder in your mouth and then taking a giant sip of water forcing it down. Anyone who has done this knows it is hard to do and you can feel the Kratom in your throat! I would say Kratom powder only serves one purpose – to use a capsule machine and put it into Kratom Capsules.
Pros/Cons of Kratom Extracts
Pros – Cheap. Long Lasting Effects. Bulk product can be capsulized.
Cons – Hard to ingest. Not discreet. Product Inconsistency.
Kratom Capsules – Kratom Capsules in my opinion are one of the best forms of Kratom to buy. They are discreet, capsulized so they are easy to swallow, and are typically not that expensive. Kratom extracts can also come in capsule form, so that gives you an easy to way to take a potent Kratom dosage and not worry about preparing tea, swallowing a mouthful of powder, or anything crazy like that.
Pros/Cons of Kratom Capsules
Pros – Easy to take. Long lasting effects. Extremely wide selection
Cons – Long onset. Higher Doses = More capsules. Sometimes expensive.
